For decades, homeowners chose neutral color palettes in their homes. It is versatile, as a complementary backdrop for bold, colorful accent pieces. Or, it can stand alone, adding a calm yet stylized feel to any room.

In the past, neutrals in the kitchen meant light wood cabinets. In fact, from the 1970s to the early 1990s, light oak wood was all the rage. Making a comeback, the light natural wood look appears more streamlined and minimal. Gone are the dramatic wood grain patterns. Today, the natural wood cabinets have an understated luxury vibe.

For Michelin-star chef Ludo Lefebvre’s kitchen, designer Marie Flanigan used light oak cabinets. To streamline the look, she took it one step further. Flanigan incorporated paneled appliances from Fisher & Paykel. The appliance manufacturer has a complete suite of products that can be faced with any type of custom paneling—from stainless steel to natural wood.

The natural wood panels help the dishdrawer and refrigerator/freezer blend seamlessly in with the cabinets. It’s just what the chef ordered: a calming vibe.
